Apricot 'Tomcot' Tree (Bare Root) by You Garden

29 GBP

The Cot series of Apricot trees have taken the commercial fruit and gardening World by storm, bringing exceptional crop yields and fruit quality. 'Tomcot' is one of the best for the cooler UK climate where we get less accumulated sunshine, yet we get plenty of Winter chill to set buds. One of the key reasons it works well over here is that it flowers in late Spring, thus avoiding late frosts that can afflict other Apricots. Yet, it catches up and still yields heavy crops of juicy, deepest orange fruits in the UK - perfect eaten straight off the tree, or for cooking and jam making. The tree is grafted onto dwarfing rootstock, a new dwarfing type keeping it short and manageable. To cap it all, 'Tomcot; is even self-fertile, so does not need a partner to produce heavy crops. Supplied as a bare root tree (dormant Nov - Mar). Grown on dwarfing rootstock. Will grow to approx. 2.5-3.5m (8-12ft) in 10 years, bearing fruit 2 years after planting. Fully winter hardy. Care Information Plant in full sun or partial shade. Although frost-tolerant, it is still best practice to protect the blossom with fleece when unusually cold weather is expected. When fruit appears, it may need thinning. Remove poorly placed, small, or misshapen fruits when they are about 1cm wide, aiming to have a fruit every 15cm (6in). The best time to prune an apricot tree to keep its shape is annually in the spring. This variety does not require a pollinator.
